Column Addition With Carry
Addition of numbers can be performed by placing the numbers in column form one below the other. The case when the sum of digits in ones place is more than 9 we will carry the tens part of that number add it with digits at tens place to find the result.
Let us perform the following addition
28 + 48 = ?
We will place the numbers such that the tens digit is below tens column and ones digit below ones column as shown below
We will first add the digits at ones place that is 8, 8 and the result will be 16.
Now 16 is greater than 9 so the tens part of 16 that is 1 will be carried over to the tens place and 6 will be placed in the ones column of the answer
Then we will add the digits at tens place that is 2, 4 and that carry that is 1 and the result will be 7 which will be placed in the tens column of the answer
As shown in the figure below
The final result will be 76
